Germ Free IsolatorsInterest in microbiome research has exploded in recent years, driving increased demand for germ-free and gnotobiotic mouse models. To maintain germ-free colonies, researchers must implement specialized techniques and husbandry requirements not needed in standard vivariums. The validation of processes is critical to success, and strict monitoring of isolators and other housing types is necessary to prevent contamination.

Microbial Monitoring of Gnotobiotic Colonies

In this webinar, Paula Roesch, PhD, will cover appropriate validation of supply sterilization and recommended monitoring techniques for germ-free and gnotobiotic isolators.

Expect to learn:

  • Autoclave, feed, and water considerations
  • Best practices for supply sterilization, including process validation and use of various indicator types
  • Suggested methods for microbial monitoring of germ-free and gnotobiotic isolators

Paula RoeschPaula Roesch obtained her PhD in microbiology and immunology from Wake Forest University. She completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Dr. Roesch joined Taconic in 2007 and currently oversees health diagnostics, quality control, genetics, and environmental biosecurity.
